Falafels & Hummus

My dinner last night was falafels with naan, spinach, falafel sauce, avocados, and hummus. I make falafels, not from scratch, probably once a week. It's so easy to make that's why. I either make them into little balls like you are suppose to or I make it into a falafel burger. My favorite part about the falafels is the sauce I make with them.
Falafel Sauce
1/2 cup veganese
2 garlic cloves, chopped fine
1/4 cucumber, chopped in cubes
1 Tbsp dill (I always puts lots of dill though)
pinch of pepper

1 can organic garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
3 garlic cloves
3 Tbsp tahini
1/2 of one lemons juice
2 Tbsp olive oil (I used an italian olive oil with garlic and such added)
sea salt
1 tsp cumin
water, enough to incorporate
Two different smoothie combos I have had in the last two days are
Green Smoothie #1
Small handful organic spinach
1/4 an avocado
1 cup organic blueberries
2 Tbsp chia seeds
Apple juice, enough to blend
1/2 scoop RAW protein powder
Green Smoothie #2
1/2 an avocado
1 cup organic blueberries
1 cup coconut kefir
1 tsp maca powder
2 Tbsp chia seeds
Do you guys like my new bumper sticker? My friend and I just started exchanging "hippy packs" as we are calling them. We send each other random "tree hugger" things that we think the other would like in the mail. It's so fun! You should try it!

  1. Do you make the Falafel from scratch or a box?

  2. I have only every made them from a box, but now that I know that the main ingredient is chickpea powder I think I can make them myself. I am pretty sure that the health food store near me sells that in the bulk section. Have you ever made them from scratch?

  3. Love the new sticker! Your meal and smoothie look so yummy:)

  4. Evergreen- thank you! I love my sticker too. It's totally me, haha.

  5. No, I've never made them from scratch or a box. I once bought some that were pre-made and frozen, but they weren't so good.

  6. Shen- I think you should try the boxed variety. Fry those up and then make the falafel sauce that I put above. That is what makes it. If I were to eat them plain I don't think I would like them much either. Do you like dill?

  7. I'll have to try your falafel sauce. My husband likes tzatziki but I haven't had success making it without yogurt.

  8. Hi Carissa, I'm so pleased to read your fun blog! Your meal looks delish, thanks for the sauce recipes! I've never made falafel at home, but we enjoy it so much that I should definitely give it a try. And I love your hippy pack exchange!

  9. Jessica- I like tzatziki too, but the no yogurt part is hard. You could make my falafel sauce with plain soy yogurt in substitute for veganese if you wanted. Also , I think vegan sour cream would work as well .

Danielle- Definitely give um a try at home! Especially the premade box ones are so easy to put together. You just need the right sauce otherwise they are too dry in my opinion. The hippy packs are souch fun! I got the idea because some vegan forums swap things in the mail and I thought it would be so much fun:)

  10. I do like Dill. I'll get around to the Falafel and Tzatziki one of these days.

  11. Falafel & hummus are two of my absolute favorites. I make hummus often but haven't tried making falafel yet.. I really want to soon! That bumper sticker is too cute :)

  12. Shen- Ok, you will like the sauce then. You can also use the sauce as a dipping sauce for carrots, celery, etc.

Jenna- Thanks! I love my sticker! I love falafels too. I went to an all you can eat Egyptian buffet here and I really liked it! It was a tiny buffet, but good. I want to go back soon!
