Quick pregnancy post

I am 14 weeks and 3 days today (excuse the mess).
I had my second midwife appointment yesterday and everything is going good. She said that my baby's heart sounds good, my blood pressure is good (although low but that is normal for me) and my body and weight are right on track as well. She told me that I am not eating enough though, so I am trying to be better about that. She said I need to add a little more protein and iron to my diet. She told me to buy blackstrap molasses and mix it with water and yellow dock root (which I just so happen to have.) The molasses has a good amount of iron and the yellow dock helps to absorb the iron right into my body instead of peeing most of it out. I am also putting in an order for some organic beet root powder (for protein and iron), organic red raspberry leaf and organic nettle. I am in my second trimester so I feel it now safe to take the red raspberry leaf. My midwife said that it was a great idea and it is so good for pregnant woman. I told her that I was getting a lot of controversy online with different herbs that I thought were ok and actually really good for pregnancy. What she told me is that, with herbs there is always going to be controversy. Since she has been a midwife and naturopathic doctor for 29 years, I trust that she knows what she is talking about :)

I am sharing with you my first video ever. This was me listening to my babies heart beat for the first time. I cried of course afterward. Best sound on earth. You might have to listen and put your ear really close to the screen to hear the heartbeat. It took her a really long time to find the heartbeat because I guess my baby was hanging out really low in my uterus, so this is the edited shorter version of the video :)

  2. Sounds like you've found someone who supports what you want to do and can answer your questions. That is sadly rare these days. I hope things continue to go smoothly for you!

  3. My belly looks like that all the time and I'm not even pregnant.

  4. Maud, hahaha. My belly is never what you'd call "concave" when I'm not pregnant, either.

That is a great idea to video listening to the heartbeat. In 4 pregnancies, I've never done that. But now I will! And YOU would have yellow dock root (whatever that is!) on hand. :)

  8. What a beautiful post. I am so glad you shared your video. That is such a special, special moment to hear your baby's heartbeat. And, it doesn't matter if it's the first time you hear it or the fifth, it never changes how wonderful it is. Congratulations so much. You will be such a sweet mom. I have a question for you - my husband has iron issues, so where do we get dock root? Thanks!

  9. Molly-Thank you and yes super exciting!

Jess- My midwife is great! She's not TOTALLY in love with me being a vegan but I am sure she is more understanding than most regular doctors.

Maud- Hahah I seriously doubt it! Don't worry though, my weight has always fluctuated too.

Jenny- I figure we might as well take lots of pictures and videos. Plus my mom is going NUTS with this being the first grandbaby and all.

Rose-It was SO amazing. My midwife doesn't do ultrasounds, so this is the closest I can get to hearing my baby

Shen- HAHA, right? Can't help it. I just love to eat!

Michelle-Haha, I'm sure all our stomachs do at one point or another :)

Blessed mama- So sorry for the late response. I buy a lot of my herbs from bulkherbstore.com. Their prices are pretty good and a lot of the herbs are organic :)

  10. The first week sign of pregnancy ticks the alarm that you have started blooming a new life inside you. The pregnancy symptoms are not so visible in the first week of pregnancy. Both your physical and mental health undergoes certain changes after you become pregnant. Make a note of all these changes that start surfacing as early pregnancy symptoms within a couple days from conceiving.
